Grip Fighting & Techniques


Shuai Jiao is a jacketed style of Chinese wrestling developed from traditional Manchu and Mongolian wrestling. While there are many distinct differences, Shuai Jiao is most commonly compared to Judo, and emphasizes throws, takedowns, and various grappling techniques.


This workshop is designed to accommodate all levels and backgrounds, and will provide a comprehensive introduction to basic principles and strategies of grip fighting in Shuai Jiao and techniques found within Shuai Jiao practice.


Whether you’re looking to improve your standup wrestling game, enhance your mental focus, or just want to try a new physical activity, we encourage you to come experience this unique style of wrestling through immersive and hands-on training.


Seminar will include:

  • Introduction to jacketed wrestling grips and positions. 
  • Grip fighting strategies and application. 
  • Basic grip defense and grip breaks.
  • Fundamental set ups & entries for takedowns.
  • Effective throwing techniques for any wrestler.

  • Technique training
  • Set-ups
  • Technique combinations & counter

Jacket Required: Judo, BJJ, or Karate gi’s are acceptable
Experience: All levels & backgrounds welcome
Minimum age: 16
